Tuesday may be one of the best days of the week to eat out in Olathe — especially if tacos are involved.
From dollar street tacos to crispy tacos, puffy tacos and margarita specials, Olathe has quite a few Taco Tuesday deals.
We checked current restaurant menus and specials, and there are some bargains that can still turn dinner into one of the cheaper meals of the week.
Perhaps the bargain to beat is El Taco-Miendo at 401 S. Parker St. Customers continue to report its $1 Taco Tuesday, with street tacos including choices such as al pastor and carnitas. It’s a simple, local taco-shop deal and one that can make a full meal remarkably inexpensive.
Not far behind is Taco John’s at 18617 W. 151st St., where the chain’s long-running Taco Tuesday tradition currently means $1.39 Crispy Tacos every Tuesday. Soft tacos are $1.89. Taco John’s officially lists the deal among its weekly specials.
And here’s an Olathe Today tip: when you’re at Taco John’s, ask for the House Salsa (with Fire Roasted Tomatoes). It’s free. It isn’t the same thing as the packets of taco sauce, and it’s easy to overlook if you don’t know to request it.
Another longtime local favorite is Bonito Michoacán. The restaurant at 1231 E. Santa Fe still promotes a Tuesday taco special, and current local restaurant listings show beef street tacos for $1.50 on Tuesdays, with prices varying for other meats.
At BB’s Grill, 1100 W. Santa Fe St., Taco Tuesday runs all day with $2 beef or chicken tacos. Adults looking for the complete Tuesday experience can also find $5 margaritas, $6 Patron shots and $3 Mexican beer bottles. BB’s has the deal posted for today, Sept. 1.
Taqueria La Nueva at 1855 N. Ridgeview Road is another strong option for street-taco fans. Its Taco Tuesday special has recently been listed at $2 tacos, and the restaurant offers a considerably wider choice of meats than the typical ground-beef Taco Tuesday — including al pastor, asada, carnitas, chorizo and others.
Downtown, Tacos El Viejon at 409 E. Santa Fe St. is advertising $2.50 tacos every Tuesday. This one is especially appealing if you’re looking for Jalisco-style tacos rather than the Americanized crispy-taco version. The restaurant itself currently features the $2.50 promotion prominently on its website.
Austins Bar & Grill | South Olathe also gets into Taco Tuesday with $2.50 beef or chicken tacos, available crispy or soft. Austins’ Tuesday specials also include a $12 taco salad, $3.75 Corona, Corona Premier and Modelo bottles, and $4.75 margaritas. The deal is offered at its Olathe locations.
For something completely different, Jose Pepper’s at 13770 S. Black Bob Road has Puffy Taco Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A puffy flour tortilla is filled with ground beef or seasoned chicken, then topped with chile con queso, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. One taco with rice and beans is $7.99, or two are $11.99.
And don’t overlook Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh. Abelardo’s officially confirms it runs a Taco Tuesday promotion on beef and chicken tacos, available soft, hard or fried. The company doesn’t post one nationwide price because pricing varies by restaurant, but Olathe diners have recently reported the local deal at about five tacos for $6 to $7.
So whether you want to spend a few bucks on street tacos, grab crispy tacos on the way home or sit down for puffy tacos and a margarita, Olathe has a surprisingly good Taco Tuesday lineup.
And we’re betting this list still isn’t complete.
