If you’ve driven past Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe lately, you may have noticed plenty of construction activity. The parish is in the middle of a major 22,600-square-foot renovation project involving both the church and school campus at 16000 W. 143rd St. The work is part of the parish’s capital campaign and is designed to update worship, gathering and educational spaces that have served the community for decades.

Inside the church, crews are renovating the sanctuary and narthex, with plans that include a new permanent altar and liturgical furnishings, improved lighting and sound, better accessibility and enhanced devotional spaces. The goal is not simply a cosmetic update, but to create a more functional and welcoming worship space for the parish.

The project extends beyond the church itself. Improvements on the school side include a new cafeteria and full kitchen in the basement, new second-floor restrooms and a campus-wide replacement of the fire alarm system. Prince of Peace has also announced HVAC upgrades across the campus as part of the larger construction effort.

Construction has temporarily changed where parishioners gather for worship. Weekend Masses are currently being held in the gym, while daily Masses and confessions have moved to the Adoration Chapel. The church’s main entrance is also closed during construction because the narthex is part of the renovation area. Prince of Peace says the church and gathering-area work is expected to continue through December.

Prince of Peace has been part of the Olathe community since 1979, with its current campus dating to the 1980s. Nearly half a century later, the construction now underway represents another major chapter for the parish. These photos offer a look at the work in progress as Prince of Peace prepares its church and campus for the years ahead
